Delivering Actionable Analytics
MicroStrategy and CDS deliver actionable analytics to help organisations leverage the value of their data and social networks, to understand and engage customers and fans via web and mobile devices.
CDS is MicroStrategy’s number one implementation partner for the UK government. CDS helps organisations build, deploy and maintain mobile and web applications, across a range of solutions by embedding intelligence, transactions and multimedia into apps.
As a key supplier to the Government, CDS services can be commissioned through UK-wide GPS Frameworks and CDS is a Government Digital Service delivery partner. Public sector organisations can also secure CDS services through G-Cloud.
Read on for brief case studies illustrating solutions delivered to the UK transport and Cabinet Office.
Large property asset management system
Cabinet Office needed to reduce the size of the Government estate by reducing space usage and lowering running costs. The specific target is to reduce the size of the estate (and monetise it) by reducing space usage from over 25 square meters down to 10 square meters per person. Achieving this would save hundreds of millions of pounds. To provide the tools for property managers to better manage the entire civil service estate, CDS developed the Government’s electronic Property Information and Mapping Service (ePIMS) – the largest property asset management system known to exist in Europe. It holds information on over 45,000 buildings across the public sector estate. This web-based system is mandated for use across government and updated by every property management team in the country.
Following implementation, the independent National Audit Office have credited the ePIMS system with delivering more than £54 million in savings. The square metre per person metric tracked below that of the private sector for the first time ever in 2011 and has improved further (IPD Statistics). The MicroStrategy reporting tool utilised within the Cabinet Office is now being rolled out to other departments:
- Department for Work and Pensions, Scottish Futures Trust, Welsh Assembly and Northern Irish Assembly are the first additional users coming online; Ministry of Justice next.
- Open to any UK government body to join the system and utilise the MicroStrategy/ePIMS cloud service. (No internal IT resource required.)
Visualise and publicise performance
A UK transport organisation faced the challenge of making vast quantities of transactional data available about every train, station, location, track, event, timetable and incident to provide insights that can help a large number of users plan their journeys, reduce delays and facilitate better use of resources; the aim being to deliver behaviour change and improve the user experience of their customers. Until now, managers also had no accessible way to report, visualise or interrogate data.
The solution is used by management teams and the general public will soon be able to review and interrogate UK transport’s performance online via MicroStrategy reporting. The solution demonstrates MicroStrategy and CDS’ capability to deliver a solution that not only deals with Big Data but can also accommodate a big user base.
Programme and project management
A UK transport organisation also faced a number of challenges when delivering large programmes with multiple projects using a plethora of internal and external suppliers and contractors. These included having no common reporting mechanism across suppliers and a clear need for central programme board coordination.
Using MicroStrategy’s solutions CDS provided an application to enable steering group boards to make decisions based on a visually clear and logical representation of project data.
